Mid-Michigan
Wow. I'm a little shocked at some of the response you have gotten. I think there is room for both. I've been investing in a Roth and traditional IRA (mostly mutual funds) for 25 years. I've had the same investment firm for all of those years. I plan to continue for another 10 years or so with growth then go with a more conservative approach with bonds. I will buy more land if I can but I just can't see where $5000+/acre ground can be a good investment for me (emphasis on ME). Maybe it works for some but the ground I have has been damned hard to pay for and it wasn't anywhere close to $5000. Corn, soybeans and wheat just haven't kept pace with paying things off. Only interest has helped me the last few years. Good luck but I'd start investing now. You will be very happy when you get to be an old fart like me. Diversification and professional help is the key. Don't try to buy individual stocks on your own (day trader). That is a recipe for losing money.
