Ontario | Depends what field they are in. In the auto industry you can really go through a lot of jobs as factories tend to lay off newer employees a lot.
My mother worked for 20 years at a Monsanto corn research centre and was told to pack her stuff this spring. She ended up finding another job in a chemical warehouse and now they too have let her go. Assuming she finds something else before the new year that'll a be 3 jobs in a single year
When you find a stable job it's great but there's not really that many left these days. A job you've held for 20 years could suddenly be gone and you're left scrambling to find anything you can which may end up being very short term. As you reach your 50s it can also be harder to find jobs as people see you as less capable, harder to teach and are nearing retirement | |
