Subject: Re: Pioneer Hi-Bred acquires MapShots

Rolla, ND
I was a computer dealer for Pioneer way back when. My first computer from them wasn't the double floppy everyone was still buying but I went all out and got the 20 meg harddrive and the monitor that could show color but had a switch to turn either amber or green like everyone was used to.

I'm trying to remember prices. Seems to me the simple database bookeeping was over $1000, and they had some other things too.

Seems to me it lasted until Quicken came along and set a new price point for everything and well there just wasn't enough to make it all work. Plus a bunch more companies started to produce agricultural software and split the market.

Now we've kind of seen things shake out and there aren't too many left. And it doesn't surprise me that Pioneer wants to get back in.

I really don't think they will push most farmer dealers into becoming software salesmen. More likely when you have a field day or something the software side will show up and demo something.
