These people who have little net worth but big retirement(teachers for example) are far wealthier than they let us believe.
No they aren't. All they have is a bunch of IOU's which might be totally worthless at some point in the future. If/when it plays out, someone with 10 chickens in the back yard will have more wealth than those two left holding a bunch of worthless empty promises.
