2 different people on a local Facebook group are claiming seeing an armadillo in Robinson, IL (click for map). OK, I am considering the source.  It's the first I've heard of them being this far north. But considering our usual good fortune with pests, if it's true I'll have one someplace in a field within a year.  :-)  With groundhogs making a local come back and moles taking over my yard I have no desire for another burrowing varmint.

My response was "Shoot it! Shoot it dead!" which created a discussion of stories about people shooting them and the bullet ricocheting and hurting someone.  Are they really that tough or is that just a good urban rumor?

I've always heard you do not want them around.  Any particular reason or just the burrowing problem?

Any comments or suggestions?

We have them over here. Saw a dead one on I-57 south of Salem a couple years ago and have been reports of others in the area.
