Subject: RE: Walkout basement "wing" ideas

central - east central Minnesota -

SpringBrookFarm - 9/19/2016 21:17 The main foundation is done, worked in backfill today, floor is in tomorrow. But what to do with the dirt "walls" I hate the look of the concrete wing walls but not sure what else to do.

If it were mine - based on your pic's and budget . . . .

I would grade / slope everything down around the sides and back toward the walk out door. It appears in one pic, you have a window well in already (?). That would allow graded/sloping backfill on those sides. It appears, it would be  a gentle slope for walking and mowing . . . . . .  (again, from your info and pic's)
Generally here, the back walk out wall isn't poured concrete, it's a wood wall. In your case - this allows grading up higher to the bottom of the widows on each end of the back walk out wall.

Here, with an abundance of large boulder type rocks - it would be a nice looking landscaped retaining wall built with boulders. Most boulders would have came from the basement excavation and neighboring fields.

On a side note: From your pic's - I would have held the basement up higher and moved dirt from around sides and back to front to meet elevation of walk in (no steps or possible one step in). Makes great positive drainage with good sloping away from site on all sides and elevations . . . . . .

Again - based on your limited pic's and info provided ~
