My computer is making noise,have had it for years, just wondered if their was a favorite website or physical store to buy a bare bones desktop priced right,,don't need a lot of bells and whistles
Where is the noise coming from? Could it just be a bearing on one of the fans is acting up and that's the cause of your problem? Blow out the dust, if it still makes the noise tap on the fans with yoru finger while they are spinning, see if that changes the pitch at all.
My last computer sounded like a wounded animal mating until I swapped out the one fan. Less than $20CDN, which is about $3.75USD.
For parts I vastly prefer www.pcpartpicker.com Ordered my last computer there in pieces and had it assembled in a couple hours. If you're not excited by the idea of building it yourself, in the same way I don't service my own vehicle engines, most of the advice already in this thread I'd agree with. Don't go bottom end, it's just shooting yourself in the foot. If you purchase a copy of windows make sure you get the DvD or USB drive it comes on. That way if there is a ton of extra crap on there you or a friend can format and re-install.
Also, I can't preach enough getting a SSD for your operating system instead of a traditional HD. Much faster.
One thing that is often overlooked that I've had good luck with is admin privileges. Do not set yourself up as the admin, but rather a basic user. This way all that annoying software, browser add-ons, etc don't sneak in. If you do need to act as the admin for something you can right-click on the program and run it as admin. Goes a long way to preventing the computer from slowing down over time. |
