If your corn is 60 #/bu then that is 600,000 pounds. Divide by 56 to get market bushels. Lower test weight will mean fewer trade bushels...but the bin will always contain 10,000 bushels, whether it it filled with corn, beans, or air.
Bushel is a volume measure. Yes, we sell by weight but pretend to sell by volume. Very confusing. I remember in college thinking that it would be more rational to sell by U.S. dollars per metric ton of dry matter. Maybe next century. | |
