Subject: RE: what would you do if you found a car in your corn?

Michigan - Saginaw County
While I was coroner there was one murder I attended in the spring. The young man who did the shooting of his father in law was never caught by the police - though "sightings" came in from 3 states in every direction, all summer.
. A pair of bachelor farmers owned a quarter section of land that was about an quarter of a mile from the house at the nearest point. They were considered to be a bit 'simple' by the neighbors (all city folks) When harvest time came they knew their ground and made a decision to combine completely around a knob that stood up about 6 feet above the rest of the surrounding area of houses and roads, leaving about a quarter acre of corn standing. When they walked into the remaining corn, sure enough they found the body. By the time I got there to do the official determination of COD (suicide) there had to have been over 50 vehicles all over the field and more than a hundred people tromping around in the mud.

I chatted with the brothers and asked how they knew/suspected he would be there. They said it seemed logical that he would run out the back of that house, cross a creek into the field and stand on the knob, the highest point in the area, so he could see the house as the police arrived. They said they suspected he would be there and even when they side dressed the corn they skipped that knob. Smart old boys. They knew the police/ems/reporters/thrill seekers would trash their corn crop if they found him before it was harvested.
