West of Mpls MN about 50 miles on Hwy 12 | Let's see, shell about half the cob onto the ground before it gets close to entering the feeder house or replace a tire every four or five years...I'll buy a tire or two before I'll ever put the old snapping rolls in my corn head.   
  
Now lets talk about how those old rolls handle down corn...and weeds.  
  
If you want a real long, shaggy looking job of picking just slow the corn head way down. Shelling become a none issue also. You will have more trash going through the combine.  
  
FWIW, I absolutely love no tilling behind my chopping corn head.  
  
edit too add...rtk or any kind of guidance on the planter is for wimps.  :)
