If you spray, they can come back. Transform and Sivanto are the only two chemicals I know of that are labeled. Transform says 14 days and Sivianto 21 days. That seems fairly close. We use both so they don't get resistant. If you are lucky the beneficials (ladybugs, lacewings, etc) will explode and keep them in check, but don't bet on it. If you have ANY aphids and spray only for head worms or other insects, you will be sorry if you don't also add Transform or Sivanto. You don't have a location so I don't know where you are in the season, but when the daytime temps cool down to the 70's or so, they really slow down.

The honeydew is their excrement. They are on the bottom of the leaves, so if you see a shiny leaf, look at the leaf above it. Only a very few aphids can make a shiny spot.

Hard rains seem to help wash the honeydew off. Also, once the aphids are killed, the honeydew dries on the leaves and gets crunchy and doesn't seem to cause trouble. If you have some not coloring, and 20-30% of the plants have shiny leaves, you should have sprayed already. This spray now will be for yield. If the plants will be green when you harvest (no freeze), then you need to think about what it will do to the combine. Even with the heads well extended, they will travel up the stalk and make a mess in the head. We have had good luck the last two years with Transform and Glyphosate 14 or so days before we think it will be time for harvest.

One large note. When you first find them, you need to start scouting twice weekly. If you have your own sprayer, have the chemical on hand, and can move quickly, you MIGHT be able to get by scouting weekly. They can explode that fast. There are some varieties that are being advertised as "tolerant", but I don't know what the are off the top of my head.
