It also depends on what kind of corn head you run. I have standard rolls on my jd head and the tops of the stalk are shredded - not cut off like some chopping heads do which does leave them very sharp. Neighbor got a new combine a few years ago and tires weren't set exactly between the rows, after 500 acres they literally chewed up a set of tires due to the chopping head leaving sharp stalks. Don't understand why they didn't adjust tires when they saw the wear. Maybe couldn't, don't know.
