UP / Thumb of Michigan | One guy I know who claimed success with rain water as a carrier wouldn't use water from a tank filled after a recent weather event to allow for any foreign stuff to settle out. Also, used a chlorine product to keep algae out.
The other issue I didn't touch on was water temps. And, I know there is at least 2 distinct trains of thought on this. The small vegetable growers I know never spray with water that isn't warmed up to air temps. Another train of thought was from a large sugar beet grower in the Thumb, who always started with fresh well temperature water every morning when post spraying beets. He claimed that he took some variability out of expected weed control as well as predictability with crop damage when he took inconsistent water temperature out of the equation. Only reason I bring it up is that rain water would be pretty close to air temperature. Thats important or not. Guess it all depends. | |
