Nevada, Iowa | I am only speaking from memory and lay terms but I can only recall the softening properties of AMS being brought to light with the advent of broad scale Glyphosate spraying. We were adding AMS long before that but it was touted as a penetrant and a sticker. Before AMS became popular we were adding UAN for the same sticker/penetrant properties. Used a lot of UAN in the earlier days of Basagran and Galaxy type products and then AMS because it was just easier to handle some bags rather than a separate tank for the solution. Continued with AMS through other tank mixes with Basagran and then into the Pursuit / Scepter time frame. In my inexperienced backward way of logic, there is more to AMS than the softening property although the softening is obviously a big plus. The first AMS I ever used came in a (still) 51# paper bag and was a course grind of a salt and pepper color. Somewhat like finer version of rock salt used to make ice cream. It dissolved just fine. | |
