What your experiencing is why I would pick hybrids based flowering date, grain quality and cool season performance rather than the stated maturity. The GDU measuring system is very skewed. Our low night time temps in my opinion are never realized, even worse for you guys further west. "relative" maturity is just that and very unreliable.

I get what you are saying. But how does a guy pick thru hybrids and companies gdu ratings. Some companies say 78 day is 2000gdu and another company says 1850. Then the one that says 2000 says well that is from planting and other company says from emergence. And to confuse me more. The pics above the corn on the left is an 82 day corn that says 2100 gdu and most on here agree it is farther along. The corn I the middle is a 78 day rated at 2000 gdu from planting. I am currently at 1940gdu from planting. So it's kinda crazy. I may have to scale back to more of the 73-78 day stuff I stead of pushing it with the 78-82day stuff. But the 82 is farther along and seems like a good corn for my ground. Early dry spring and i decided to push maturity.
