and seeing that I for all my life living about 25 miles from him, everything is dormant planted or not from Oct until about April 1.

The soil is way different in south central MN vs Central Missouri as well as different climate.

Up there you have light soil with 2 - 2.5% OM. I know for a fact Paul has some reaching close to 20%. He wants to keep fire away from that ground. Once lit it can burn for 5 yrs or better, yes ground can burn and has.
