Alberta, Canada | It was a moderately dry season here (second cut was basically non-existent), but that field did ok. It rained a fair bit the days prior to seeding(last days of June), then fairly dry for a while. It really took off in August.
Got approximately 325 bales off 127 acres.
2,650lbs * 325 is 861,250lbs of silage --- 6,800lbs/acre. Not bad for a crop seeded on June 30th, then submitted to a hot, dry growing season.
Only fertilizer we did was NH3 at seeding.
I wouldn't recommend breaking ground in the spring that's for sure.
Guess it's the same as all your fields? Without rain, you ain't gonna get a crop on about anything. | |
