Mycogen was originally a private venture capital funded biotech company. They were one of the earliest into B.t. research and development.
Their acquisitions of seed corn companies (Jacques, McCurdy, Agrigene, Lynks, etc) was to provide a vehicle for the distribution of their B.t. traits.
