There are a dozen farmers around here who tell me my grandfather helped them get started. He gave them loans when the bank wouldn't, and gave them financial advice. More than a few of those guys are worth several million today.
He had a herd of registered Holsteins and would let families who were struggling, take one until they were back on their feet.
