Thumb of Michigan | I have a neighbor with a shed full of very desirable muscle cars. All were bought in the 60's/ early 70's. Some were bought new by either him or his wife. Had a guy hounding the neighbor pretty regularly about selling him a 68 Hemi 4 speed Roadrunner. Neighbor is the second owner, I think the car has less than 60K on it now. Anyway, the deal didn't come together. There were a few of us having the "geez, that was a great investmant" conversation one day. Neighbor got out a calculator and began to due some figuring. He knew he was upside down from an investmant standpoint on the car, just didn't realize how much. He paid just over 2K for the car when he bought it, and had invested 2K in a couple of different funds a year later after buying the RoadRunner.
Guess which investmant was more valuable that day?
With that said, it doesn't matter to him. He gets an awful lot of satisfaction looking at his cars. Even drives a few of them on occasion. Said there were times he thought about selling a car to buy a farm, but always figured out a different way to get the job done. | |
