NW South Dakota
Some growers here plant spring wheat in March, but most of it gets planted in April. An early spring freeze is a concern with planting early. Im not sure when your last freeze/frost date would be but you could probably plant 2-3 weeks before that. Spring wheat doesn't tolerate high temps very well and if it gets hot during flowering yield is cut dramatically. I have no experience with irrigation but a little water would probably alleviate some of the heat stress. Some SW varieties hang in there pretty good when they get some heat/moisture stress others just quit. Generally you need 2.5 lbs of N per bushel. I assume your closest markets would be in South Dakota, if that is the case, you would have a more trucking expense as well. Good Luck!
