Somerville, Indiana | shift trucks as they don't require the driving skills that manual trans do. In my mind that is a grave mistake as shifting a manual transmission is very minimal skill compared to what all a professional truck driver has to watch and take care of. There is so much more than driving the truck from field to elevator, or farm storage than shifting gears. If a farmer gets injured to where he has limited use of his left leg, auto shift here we come. But going auto shift to replace skills is going to eventually bite us in the a@@. Red flag goes up immediately when a farmer says 'my wife can even drive it'. Dawn has been driving tandems and semis since she was 14, didn't have a problem shifting since Ryan shifted for her a couple trips. Maybe I am going off in the wrong direction, but then maybe a couple farmers will think again before putting unskilled drivers on the road. | |
