Subject: RE: NH 1431 cutter bar flex

Originally the spec was 50 ft/lbs torque plus one full turn or 6 flats. The latest spec is oil the threads with 80-90 oil, torque to 50 ft/lbs plus turn the nuts 5 flats. I split the difference and oil the threads and turn the nuts an additional 5 1/2 flats.

With the head latched up, run a string from one side to the other. The max sag should be 3/4" in the middle. With the head on the ground the max sag should be 1/2" in the middle. Cutterbars since 2005 have had stepped spacers to correct the sag. For prior models there was a shim kit available to correct the sag if the sag was out of specs.
