NW Ohio | My only problem with them is that sometimes the coulter will not turn in conventional tilled ground. It will turn slowly or sometimes not at all. Not saying this is a problem all the time, but has been a small issue in the sandy soils that are tilled. The reason for the coulter not turning is because the coulter runs almost exactly straight. Not enough resistance to always keep it turning. But on the other hand that was the main reason that I bought them. Very little soil disturbance and the fertilizer opener doesn't seem to "squeeze" the soil between the fertilizer opener and the double disc openers.
I am sure that if I let the fertilizer coulter in a notch deeper that I wouldn't have a problem with them not turning. But that comes with the expense of the boot digging that much deeper into the ground. I want as little disturbance as possible and to just have my starter covered good with dirt. I don't want to try and get the starter 3 or 4 inches deep.
