Common burdock and cocklebur are not the same. Cocklebur is an annual plant. Burdock is a biennial, and the 2nd year growth in particular will have a massive root. The growth habits look very different as well. Seed pods are different - burdock will have a round pod; cocklebur will have an oval seedpod. That to me would be the telling difference. In the OP pics, it is a bit blurry to be sure. However, based on the growth habit, I believe it is cocklebur, and not burdock. Cocklebur - notice the oval shape seeds in the pics Burdock - notice the rosette appearance of the bottom leaves. Burdock - scroll down to 5th pic. Notice the growth appearance of the plant. That to me is what burdock looks like. I don't see this in the OP pics. |
