Subject: RE: Corn breaking off at bottom node

Northeast Iowa
Had a syngenta number have this really bad on some of our best farm ground last year.

Usually we harvest a corn stalk so tough I can put all my weight on the lowest node and it wont break or tip over. This hybrid just turned to dust at the lower node. It was like the equivalent if having a toilet paper roll made of egg shells to support the entire corn plant. The scenario was so bad, the field just started to go flat with a slight breeze.

Make it the first you harvest, even if it is 25%.

If the field has any size to it at all and 50% is down, expect to invest in a corn head reel. You wont have enough good stalks to help push in the dry and rotten plants through the corn head.

Talk to your seedsman too, they might want to reimburse you.
