Subject: RE: Dry Beans in Michigan

Sanilac Co. Michigan
Don't know much about MAC and edibles. Most growers around here deal with Pigeon Co-op, Star of the West, and ADM. Not sure on the other two, but I think uncontracted beans at the Co-op end up in a marketing pool.

Far as I can tell, market price is set when the buyers feel like it! By and large they pretty well know how many acres of each type are being grown, yield potential, and inventory, so I don't think there's a whole lot of farmer speculation like there was 30 years ago.

Seed is available from the folks that contract and buy them. Usually not a problem unless western grown seed is in short supply. Then they tend to sell first to their contract growers before they let it out to the rest of the market.

Um, have you ever grown them before? They ain't soybeans!
