| You could cut the horizontal cross piece, where the wagon attaches. out of your existing hitch and replace it with two pieces of close fitting pipe similar to the coupling pole in wagon running gear. Say 2.5 in for the inside and 3 in. for the out side. Weld the inside pipe to the remaining vertical hitch rails and weld the flat piece with the attachment hole to the outside. Drill a 7/8 in. hole through both pipes to insert a hitch pin through when you want it rigid and pull the pin when you need rotation.
Had a similar set up on an old truck that dumped by raising the whole truck front with a cradle you put the front wheels in at the mill. My hitch was similar to yours and hit the ground way before the angle was enough to get much dumped. The above arangement allowed that hitch to swivel up into the frame rails and worked good for us for the life of that truck. | |
