Lenawee Co Michigan | That type of key is used on the flywheel of steam traction engines to keep the flywheel from working out. They're very effective, especially when you need to remove the flywheel!
Mine had a drilled hole down the center tapped for a bolt, so a U shaped piece could be placed over the keyway and the bolt screwed in, to pull the key out.
They are tough. Even with a screw wedge, it took two torches worth of heat to get it to move. | |
