kohler is the best of all the small engines, that is what I have been told by a friend that has a sideline business rebuilding mowers. In his words, once you get past 1000 hrs on one you are on borrowed time. He is not a fan of the B&S engines or the chinese knockoff hondas either. I have an 18 hp vtwin kohler in my Marty J and the front jug is junk. 1qt of oil per mowing. Gonna cost about 800 to get it reworked by him. Rest of the mower is in great shape
