| The PTO valve spool is held "ON" by regulated pressure. The valve has a spring-loaded detent poppet that PTO clutch applied pressure pushes down on in the "engaged" position.
The poppet was adjustable on the oldest Magnums by an allen-head screw; they phased out the screw fairly quickly.
Normal causes for PTO lever popping off are 1) low regulated transmission regulated pressure 2) wear in the point of the the poppet and/or detent spring 3) wear on the PTO valve spool where the poppet engages it, 4) a leak in the PTO clutch circuit which causes lower regulated pressure when PTO is ON.
The PTO valve and poppet are NOT fun to get at; especially on 30" rows. | |
