waterloo iowa | I may be wrong but my thinking is the second ear on a stalk would be more efficient use of photosynthesis and fertilizer than having more stalks.
Maybe the seed companies just don't want us to plant a 4 eared stalk that would yield 240 at a 15-20,000 population.I have seen stalks on endrows with 3 ears so it is possible.
every time I try a population test,it seems that the higher yield from higher population just barely pays for the seed | |
