No you would not have gotten the anthracnose in corn from apple trees. The anthracnose in corn is specific to maize and is a different anthracnose then the anthracnose in trees. Even each tree species have different types of anthracnose.
Also I would like to add I use to think a early application of a fungicide such as Stratego would help to prevent or lessen a outbreak of anthracnose just as carlton suggested. We also use to apply Stratego with our second pass of herbicide. 2 years ago, come late summer, anthracnose really showed up in all of our corn. Weather conditions had been perfect for the development of anthracnose that summer with a wet cool June then a dry stressful July and early August. The early app of Stratego had no effect on preventing its development. The anthracnose broke late enough it did not affect yield but it certainly caused issues with stalk strength. We were fortunate to have a perfect fall for harvest with no bad winds.
We changed varieties last year. We also had very similar weather last year to the weather 2 years ago, cool wet June-dry July and August. We did not have any anthracnose. We no longer apply a fungicide with our 2nd herbicide application.
