West Central Iowa
So let's add in roots, it's kind of hard to find information on roots and root mass changes throughout the season as they are reabsorbed for grain fill. So if you have 16,800 lbs of corn grain, and 16,800 lbs of stalk then you have 33,600 lbs above ground matter, and from what I have found in a random study, for every 4.5 lbs of above ground dry matter you have 1 lb of roots so 33,600รท4.5=7,467 lbs root assuming they're around 5% protein (complete assumption) that makes 373 lbs protein so 373/6.25=60 lbs N. So we're up to 450 lbs N. So you need 450 lbs for 300 bpa corn. So if your aiming for 0.7 lbs N per bushel of corn you will likely be disappointed.
