I'm reading an article (Successful Farming magazine) regarding what Stine Seeds is doing with regards to high population, narrow row corn. In the article it says: " Stine Seed Company researchers say 300-bushel corn requires 300-475 lbs per of N. It will require split applications to ensure adequate nitrogen throughout the growing season." I was under the impression that midwestern corn growers are shooting for 0.7 lbs N/ bushel of yield. Stine's recommendations are a far cry from that 0.7 lbs N/bu of corn goal. Does it take more N at those higher yield levels? What is going on here? What do you say? |
