South-central Nebraska | Did you have any high winds/storms? Seeing some effects from stalks not greensnapping but "cracking" at the ear node. The stalk then is not fully able to nourish the developing ear causing odd ear development. Coupled with bent stalks that allowed for poor pollination, many ears aren't quite right. The excessive heat in June couldn't have been great either.
Pretty sure I have 300 bushel residue on most of my fields this year, not so sure about the grain bushels.
