West Central Alberta Coldest, wettest edge

No, I can't, but supposedly, a Beaver knows what type of season is coming and will build his house accordingly, migrating birds change their timing etc.  Are these all old wives tales about animals, or do they somehow know?  I don't know the answer.  All the old timers look for these signs.  But I doubt they keep track of their results objectively.

The more I learn about plants and their ability to sense their surroundings, sensing, light, colour, smell, vibrations, the more I think we underestimate their IQ.

Perhaps nature/the weather is giving us signs that we aren't in tune enough to pick up on, perhaps a certain pattern indicates a shorter growing season, or longer winter is coming?
