Subject: RE: Weed seed bank

West River, SD
Annual weeds are the first step in ecosystem succession. The perennials slowly fill in where the weeds were growing. Most crop production could be considered the first step, I guess. With a crop rotation, it is usual to see different weeds with different crops, even if the weed hasn't been seen in the field for a while. Having a huge flush of weeds that produce seed is not a good thing, but weed seed is a normal thing. Even doing deeper than normal tillage can bring up all sorts of weed seed.
