Subject: RE: Its too hot to walk beans....

Last year with all the rain a lot of field areas drowned out or were heavily damaged. When those areas became heavily infested with water hemp a well known crop consultant advised his clients to destroy those areas even if they had crop in them. Following destruction of the weeds they should then cultivate those areas continuously the rest of the summer to flush the seed bank as much as possible or moldboard plow and bury the seed. Some fellas followed his advice some criticized that advice. This year those that criticized him wish they had followed his advice. With the possibility of the water hemp he mowed off being chemical resistant an acre of reduced yield soybeans is a small price to pay to prevent them from spreading across the entire field.
