| The actual leaf discoloration "the death" is the final stage of th disease once the fungus moves to reproductive development and starts to produce spores. The actual infection most likely took place back in May. At this point there is no control strategy, fungicide won't be effective since it was infected months ago. Depending on the year (weather conditions in May) the infectin may not occur, it's favored by cool wet cloudy conditions, or if it's a cool summer it may not go to reproductive stages until late August in which case the impact on yield may be minimal.
It's a wild card disease in that it's hard to predict, manage, and out guess. There's a seed treatment called iLevo which is labeled for it but research and field trials have been hit or miss so far in my opinion (not to mention it's in the neighborhood of $18/unit) but I'm anxious to see more on how this product performs this year given that the SDS pressure may be high. | |
