Transpiration does, indeed, add moisture to the air. So does irrigation. But the effect is local and short-lived. Ultimately, the amount of water vapor in the air depends on dry bulb temperature. Our nights are getting warmer, for example, so there will be more muggy nights, corn or no corn.
