SC Wisconsin | A neighbor of mine has a 10 acre pasture behind his house. It hasn't had animals in a few years and I tried last year to rent it to put corn on as I need more corn and don't have the acres. He insists he will make more money selling the hay off it, so I agreed to just cut rake and bale the grass for hay as I need that too. Well I am still waiting on getting a second crop due to not much rain, so he will get less than $1000 from hay this year. I'm debating asking him if he will consider letting me rent it by the acre now (currently I just buy the hay by the bale) so I can out corn on it. It is close so I could load it up with pen pack manure. It is kind of on a hill so probably not the best ground, but old pastures can surprise you. Anyways, just curious on how you would approach him with maybe some sort of flex rent to help convince him to put it to corn. I would rather put corn in and sell a little than try and mess with a scraggly hay crop. Thanks | |
