nw NC | For many years all my corn went into silo for dairy cows. Since I quit shipping milk and not needing as much silage, I have had some for grain the last three years. 150-160 bushels has been avg. yield for those three years. All those years corn was early June planted at not more than 23,000 pop. for stand-ability reasons ( 36 inch rows) should I needed to harvest for grain. Being this 92 day is short stalk and not needing to stand for grain harvest , I planted 27,000 for silage to get a little more silage yield. Below is 2013, 2014, 2015 corn yields from USDA. North Carolina info is the bottom line. 2015 was a bad dry year over much of N.C. hence low yields. 2014 was a little better, but not up to 2013. Guys who produce the best yields generally can do 180 to over 200 or more in the best river flood plains .....if it is not too wet. Upland hillside fields, not as much.
