I don't think there are any areas in Texas where it can't potentially turn off super hot and dry. For example Childress had 99 days over 100 degrees in 2011. Here in the panhandle we have nice flat ground and good soils but the weather is very unpredictable with drought normally being the #1 concern. In years with good weather we can raise some nice dryland crops of wheat, milo, and cotton. Like Texasfarmer 87 said the groundwater is declining fast but in areas with good water irrigated crops do very well.
