NC Kansas
I think its obvious the $7.00 corn and $14.00 beans is really coming back to bite us. Many many acres torn out and planted to cash crops that shouldn't. another factor that plays into growing more beans in areas that maybe didn't 20 years ago is this wheat price and how hard it is to grow high yielding wheat. We had excellent weather for HRWW this year and had 55-60 bushel double crop (behind beans in the fall) and 80 to 100 bushel continuous wheat and at $2.90 cash price it still doesn't compete with 30 bushel soybeans. Many guys here are taking wheat out of the rotation here, not sure it's a wise move as we really need wheat stubble to plant corn/milo into to make 150 plus bushels... planting into bean ground or continuous corn would be a crap shoot from year to year. I try to tell my customers (I'm a banker) to not look at 1 or 2 years you have to look at 5 years plus and see what made you more money on average.
Most around here now call wheat their cover crop... and they aren't wrong.
