Northeast Nebraska and Candelaria Philippines
I am an insulation contractor from Nebraska. We travel through several Midwest states to do insulation and foam roofing. We use both spray foam and blown cellulose. There are several different types of spray foam. First there is density. On thing density measures is how hard the foam is. We use ½ lb, 1 lb 1.7 lb 2 lb and 3 lb foam. Each has its own place. For the most part, the higher the density the higher the r value per inch, but this is not always true. Our r values range from 3.9 to 8 per inch. We use both petro oil based products and soy based products.

20% of you heat can be lost from the floors. In addition having warmer floors will make your home “feel” warmer and be more comfortable. This will allow you to reduce the thermostat by a degree or two yet maintain the same level of comfort. Also, if you have squeaky floors, it will “glue” everything together and help reduce the noise. When spraying the foundation, it will help reduce the ability for insects to enter. In this application I recommend either the soy based 1.7 lb or the oil based 2 lb foam.

The cost will vary based on size of the project, type of foam, thickness, and mileage. I price my foam by the board foot. Or 12”x12”x1” so if you wanted it sprayed 2 inches thick, it would be 2 board foot per square foot. 1.7 lb and 2 lb foam runs around $.85 -- $1.00 per board foot based on volume and mileage.

For those of you interested, in walls that will be enclosed, we use ½ lb foam that cost about $.25 to $.30 per board foot. We can also do machine sheds, grain bins, and applications where the foam can be exposed to the outside elements.
