Ontario | i'm thinking there's a good chance this could be my last year. i expect i'll break even which is exactly what happened last year too but it doesn't seem worth it. don't see the point in working for nothing especially when i've had to buy some equipment that i didn't plan to and equipment here is something like 25% more new or used. i enjoy farming and really can't see myself doing anything else but it just feels like it's impossible to get ahead unless you have a few thousand acres and all the stress involved just doesn't seem worth it.
i really don't understand how these large farms do it. between paying employees and leasing all new equipment every few years i don't see how they could possibly have anything left at the end of the year. hell i couldn't even afford to lease a single tractor and these guys are leasing 3-4 + a combine or 2 and all the implements | |
