Wide spacing also has better penetration in tough going as there is more weight per disk. There are hardly any narrow spacing discs around here anymore. Narrow spacing was generally considered a "finishing" disc and wide a "cutting" disc. Since most people finish with a field cultivator or no-till or use some other special implement finishing discs are really rare - around here.
