Subject: RE: Nitrogen fertilizer on soybeans

Marion, Ohio
Several farmers in the area started applying chicken litter when an egg laying facility moved in 15-20 yrs ago. Being new to chicken litter these farmers were applying 6 ton/ac every other year. There was an abundance of it because farmers were unsure of it and landlords didn't want the smell on their farm. Fast forward to today, they have soil P tests well over 100lbs and corn field averages that are 60-100 bu above their neighbors. Bean yields are 10-20 bu better as well. More farmers are applying litter in front of soybeans now as a common practice. Its very worth while to go above sufficient levels, especially when using manure.
