Subject: RE: 20 in beans versus 15 in beans

Have been on 20's for 3 seasons now both corn and beans. I plant with a track tractor on 120" spacing so I slid the two rows next to tracks over 2" each to create a 24" tram rows then spray, side dress, apply all crop treatments using the tram rows. Here are the pros imo:
Much better plant spacing in row spacing than wide rows
Very quick canopy in corn for better weed control
Very easy to spray and side dress with out running down crop
Easy harvesting both corn and beans
Very happy with yields but don't have any side by side comparisons since switching.
Cons: beans don't canopy fast enough to stop waterhemp
Lack of agronomic help locally for 20's choosing varieties
Initial machinery expense is substantial
